More lightweight adhesives with Ultralite

Mapei widens its range of lightweight one-component adhesives with two new specific products classified as C2FTS1 and C2FTS2 for large-sized tiles, which reduce the impact on the environment and protect the health of end-users.

In the ceramic tiling sector it is becoming common practice to use large-sized tiles with traditional or thin thickness (up to 3 mm thick). Extremely high performance adhesives are required to install these types of tiles, especially when used in certain conditions such as on external façades, where properties such as thixotropy and deformability must combine with back-buttering. A property not always easy to achieve when laying large-sized tiles. To offer to installers products meeting these requirements, Mapei - world leader in the production of adhesives and complementary products for the installation of all types of floor and wall coverings, specialized in other chemical products for building with 15 product lines - has developed the ULTRALITE range of adhesives. In 2013, apart from the tried and trusted favourites ULTRALITE S1 and ULTRALITE S2, the range was widened to include ULTRALITE S1 QUICK and ULTRALITE S2 QUICK: one-component lightweight cementitious adhesives, ideal for installing ceramic tiles, stone and thin porcelain tiles.

These two products complete Mapei rapid systems range and are characterized, like all the rest of the products belonging to this range, by the Ultralite Technology resulting in easier trowellability in lower transportation costs and a higher yield up to 80%. These adhesives also contain 20-30% of recycled materials, reducing the impact on the environment. Furthermore ULTRALITE S1 is classified as EC1 R Plus by the GEV Institute (Gemeinschaft Emissionskontrollierte Verlegewerkstoffe, Klebstoffe und Bauprodukte e V.) - an association which checks emission levels of products - as it guarantees a very low emission level of volatile organic compounds (VOC), and it is characterized by Low Dust technology (Mapei technology that identifies products with reduced dust emissions) which considerably reduces the amount of dust given off when mixing the product, making floor-installers’ work easier and healthier.

Advantages for users
- High adhesion only after 2-3 hours from the ; floors and coverings are ready for use in a very short time
- Extended open time: installation is easier especially in the summer
- Free of voids on the back of the tiles which may cause the breaking or detachment of the covering
- Easier installation and workability thanks to micro-spheres which lighten the products improving their trowellability
- On equal weight of product, higher yield from 60% to 80% per square metre compared with equivalent cementitious adhesives

Advantages for distributors
- Lower transportation costs
- Lesser warehouse space
- Thanks to the Ultralite technology and content of recycled materials, they help obtain credits to achieve LEED certification for eco-sustainable projects
