On 27 July 2012, Confindustria Ceramica and the ceramic sector trade unions FILCTEM-CGIL, FEMCA-CISL and UILCEM-UIL signed the National Agreement on Supplementary Healthcare in accordance with the Sector Welfare provisions of the Collective National Labour Contract (CCNL), thereby agreeing to adopt the Supplementary Healthcare system administered by the Supplementary Healthcare Fund for Energy Sector Workers (FASIE). On the same date the agreement was also signed with UGL Chimici, FIALC-CISAL, FAILC-CONFAIL and FESICA-CONFSAL.

In order to illustrate the procedures involved in signing up with the FASIE scheme, Confindustria Ceramica organised a meeting held today with representatives of the Fund and of Previmedical SpA. Moderated by the head of the Association’s Labour Department Glauco Roberti, the meeting featured talks by FASIE director Paolo Belloni and by Elia Zambon, Michela Turcato and Paolo Sauri from Previmedical SpA.

From 1 January 2013 onwards, all workers in the ceramic tile, refractory materials and ceramic sanitaryware sectors employed on a permanent or temporary basis for more than one year may register voluntarily with FASIE. Family members are automatically covered in the event of major operations, but they can also be registered individually to enjoy all the benefits offered by the Fund.

Workers can choose between Standard, Extra and Plus options, which offer the same coverage as for energy sector workers. Once chosen, this option cannot be changed for the first 3 years. In all cases the company contribution remains the same at 140 euro per year, whereas the amount to be paid by the worker varies from 140 euro per year in the standard option (equivalent to 8.51 euro a month) to 705 euro in the Plus option. A total of 48,151 workers are currently registered with the fund, the majority of whom (around 33,000) have chosen the Extra option.

There are two healthcare options, direct and indirect. In the direct option, the worker receives treatment from one of the participating healthcare facilities without having to make any payment in advance. In the indirect option, the worker can select a facility of his or her choice and subsequently submit a refund request form to the Fund, which if preferred can be done online.
