The "EMAS applied to the ceramic district" project

On February 5, 2004, the Ecolabel Ecoaudit Committee (an Emas authorized body) issued a certificate to the Promotional Committee for the “EMAS applied to the Modena and Reggio Emilia ceramics district” project, in recognition of the work they have accomplished so far.

The certificate also recognizes the worth of the simplified Emas registration procedures for manufacturers located in the area.

The certification opens the way to the activities that the Association is carrying out in preparing sector-wide guidelines for the “simplified” registration of ceramics manufacturers in the district.

Various documents issued retrace the different operational stages of the project, regarding:

a series of preliminary measures to involve significant operators in the area (see "Document distributed to interested parties"), which led to the undersigning of the Agreement approving the project realisation schedule;

the identification of problems that must be managed and environmental priorities in the district via a far-reaching initial environmental survey;

the concertation of objectives and improvement measures for all subscribing participants, which led to the definition of the Environmental Programme for the district;

verification by an independent third party to validate the Environmental Programme for the district;

the definition of simplified protocols to facilitate the registration of businesses through bespoke procedural simplification measures.
