Florim opens new Industry 4.0 factory

Florim has opened a new Industry 4.0 factory in Fiorano Modenese. Extending over an area of 48,000 square metres alongside the institutional headquarters, this hi-tech, fully-automated facility sets new standards in the field of industrial innovation. The factory is devoted exclusively to the machining and logistics of large Florim Magnum Oversize slabs with dimensions exceeding 3 metres in length and 1.6 metres in width, a product segment in which the company boasts a leadership position in terms of its range and market presence.
The new Fiorano facility is just the latest step in the innovation process undertaken by Florim, which has invested more than 200 million euros over the last two years. In 2017, the company opened another hi-tech Industry 4.0 facility in Mordano (Imola, Bologna) for the production of large size slabs, which are subsequently transferred to Fiorano for the machining, packaging and shipping stages. The two facilities will be interconnected to ensure complete traceability, from raw materials through to packaging. A sophisticated software will have the task of controlling and automatically managing the plant, the anthropomorphic robots and the LGVs (Laser Guided Vehicles). This fully integrated communication system serves to improve customer service quality while reducing delivery times. Given the complexity of the IT infrastructure and the number of interconnected machines, a period of testing will be required before full-scale operation is reached.
