EPD the environmental product declaration for Italian ceramic tiles

A new tool for sustainability and competitiveness

The EPD, a voluntary certified environmental product declaration based on standardised criteria, is attracting global interest as a key tool for the promotion and selection of eco-friendly products.

Confindustria Ceramica unveiled the industry-average EPD aimed at promoting international awareness of the excellent environmental performance achieved by the Italian ceramic industry. The declaration is based on a study of the environmental data of more than 90 Italian ceramic tile manufacturers over the entire product life cycle. In terms of the number of companies included, the declaration marks a world first for the construction industry.

The environmental impact data contained in the industry-average EPD, which can be downloaded by clicking on the link at the bottom of this page, are lower than those of similar studies such as the Global Warming Potential (GWP) which represents the impact on global warming expressed in CO2 equivalents. These results reflect companies high levels of environmental performance based on continuous dedicated investments.

The industry-average EPD is representative of the production of Italian ceramic tile manufacturers belonging to Confindustria Ceramica, who are entitled to use it to promote their products. The complete list of companies covered by the industry-average EPD can be seen on page 10 of the declaration.

In a global marketplace in which sustainability has become a tool for competitiveness, the industry-average EPD will further strengthen the Italian ceramic tile industry leadership position in the context of the most prestigious sustainable building rating systems (e.g. LEED) and green public procurement (GPP) procedures.
