COMPANIES AND DISTRICTS PUT TO THE TEST OF GLOBALIZATION

The evolution of competition has caused a profound change in companies, industries and territories; hence the need to better understand scenario evolution.
Important indications emerge from the essay written by former European commission president Romano Prodi for Cer- il giornale della ceramica.
The essay analizes the key success factors of Italian ceramic manufacturers: technology, design, human resource training, activity on foreign markets, gaps on raw materials and energy, the company size.   
Of fundamental interest are Mr Prodi’s opinions about the role of the ceramic industry and district which in particular would need to turn itself “from a mere production centre into a distribution logistics centre of innovation”.
