More and more frequently, manufacturers are turning to external laboratories to certify the quality of their products. The results of the tests and analyses are used for various purposes: • in contractual situations: on the customer’s request or when required for a supply specification; • as company documentation to be printed in catalogues and literature; • for internal production quality checks; • for binding obligations: for example, tests required for CE marking or tests on clay products for structural applications. The test laboratories are therefore independent parties in the evaluation of production quality. Given the importance of this role, it has become necessary to create a procedure for evaluating and certifying the reliability of the laboratories. This process is called Accreditation. In Italy the accreditation body is SINAL (National System for Laboratory Accreditation). The requirements for accreditation are contained in standard UNI CEI EN ISO/IEC 17025 and in the regulations of SINAL. Through mutual recognition agreements, SINAL accreditation is also valid in Europe and in various non-European countries. |
