Italian tiles in the spotlight in Shanghai

Italian tiles in the spotlight in Shanghai

From 1 to 15 September the exhibit devoted to Emilia-Romagna will showcase the region’s local, social and manufacturing excellences. One of these is the ceramic district

“Better City, Better Life” is the slogan of the Shanghai world expo which opened its doors last May. This theme of cities of the future and of an urban planning revolution as a platform for new and better lifestyles is close to the heart of Confindustria Ceramica, which will be present in Shanghai from 1 to 15 September as part of the Emilia-Romagna delegation to promote the excellence of the ceramic sector.
An extensive programme of events will be organised with the participation of institutions, businesses and trade associations with the aim of fostering an appreciation of the Emilia-Romagna region amongst international visitors and promoting companies from an area that is home to the Italian ceramic district.

The Confindustria Ceramica Promotion Area will in turn be organising a wide range of initiatives to convey the excellence of the Italian ceramic industry to visitors from all over the world. Out of a total of 8 million visitors who have attended the Expo since it opened, 300,000 have visited the Bologna stand.

The first initiative in which Confindustria Ceramica will be involved is the image exhibition entitled “Land with a soul”, organised by Regione Emilia-Romagna in the Italian pavilion. Here for 15 days, Confindustria Ceramica will be showcasing one of the region’s products of excellence under the banner of Ceramic Tiles of Italy, the mark that it has used for more than 35 years to promote Italian ceramic tiles worldwide. Visitors will be able to admire high-end ceramic tiles manufactured by the eight member companies Casalgrande Padana, Floor Gres, Lord, Marazzi, Mirage, Piemme, Ragno and Sichenia. Along with the beauty and design for which Italian tiles have long been renowned, another key theme of the exhibit will be sustainability in line with the slogan chosen for this edition of the Expo.

Beautiful, durable and eco-friendly, Italian tiles can make an important contribution to the Expo’s mission of transforming the world’s cities into more liveable places in harmony with the needs of humans and the environment. In this new vision, economic development, ecology and quality of living go hand in hand and become inseparable concepts.

Videos devoted to the region’s key industries will also be screened, including two on the ceramic sector. And on 9 September at 15.00, again under the auspices of Ceramic Tiles of Italy, Confindustria Ceramica will be organising a seminar at the Architecture faculty of the University of Tongij, a structure that has long boasted major scientific collaborations with the region’s university institutes, most notably Bologna University. Entitled “Ceramic Tiles of Italy: the green way”, the seminar aims to inform the Chinese public about the continuous innovations that Italian companies are making in order to produce ever more beautiful tiles while at the same time limiting energy consumption and environmental impact through continuous investments in technology.

Along with Venice, Bologna has been chosen at a world level to represent best practices in terms of key quality-of-life indicators, namely culture and creativity, technological innovation, social inclusion, urban and infrastructure transformations. Merit for this is largely due to the Bologna region’s leading economic players, who are committed at Shanghai to showcasing the best of creativity and excellence in regional production as part of a project organised by Unindustria Bologna and Legacoop.

Named “Made in Bo”, the project will cover all the key manufacturing sectors, from clothing and accessories to furnishing and lighting, from cars and motorbikes to machinery and equipment, from ornamentalware to materials and components for building, and through to graphic design and packaging, and will see the participation of 15 Confindustria Ceramica member companies who have placed their catalogues and credits on the website www.designmadeinbo.it. The site will be launched on 1 September during the 15 days in China devoted to the Emilia-Romagna region, a “land with a soul” that has succeeded in combining past, present and future in a richly diverse economic and cultural landscape, adopting at all times the languages of modernity, technology and respect for nature.
